Kalikot: Though the nation has been declared as free from untouchability, Dalit women, going to take water from public taps and wells are still beaten up by the so-called non-dalits in the rural parts of the district. Kausila BK (20) of Sappata-9 [was attacked and seriously injured on her way to meet her sister] at a well [when she stopped] to drink water. The attackers were taken into custody by the police.

Over a dozen dalits were manhandled by the non-dalits in the district so far, said dalit representatives. Earlier, more than 250 elderly citizens of Goralbada of Daha VDC were compelled to shift to the district headquarters due to the torture from Shahi families.
