Afghanistan: government responds to drinking water shortages in villages

To respond to the shortage of safe drinking water in drought affected areas, the [Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has deployed] 196 tankers [...] in 17 provinces to bring water from outside villages. Out of these tankers, 74 are now providing 568 villages with safe drinking water in 10 provinces. Parallel to this, the work on water-well drilling projects and the installation of water supply networks and construction of water reservoirs have also been commenced to provide long-term solutions for future water shortages.

[The drinking water projects are among the] 3458 development projects worth USD 63,447,671 (equivalent to Afs 3,172,383,576) [which the MRRD has initiated] in 34 provinces [...] [d]uring the Second Quarter of the current solar year.
